Firebase Studio is a browser-based development environment that combines a Code OSS–compatible IDE, workspace VMs, and Gemini-powered AI assistance to help teams prototype, code, test, and publish full‑stack applications. It includes the App Prototyping agent for rapid Next.js web prototypes, coding workspaces with Gemini code assistance, templates, built-in previews and emulators, and deep integration with Firebase backend services (App Hosting, Firestore, Authentication, Cloud Functions). Access during preview includes three no-cost workspaces; Google Developer Program members can create more workspaces. Note: Firebase Studio is being sunset on 2027-03-22 and projects should be migrated to Google AI Studio or Google Antigravity before that date.

Powerful AI app workspace, but hard to recommend because it is sunsetting
Firebase Studio is Google’s cloud-based AI development workspace for building full-stack apps with Gemini, templates, code editing, previews, Firebase Authentication, Firestore, App Hosting, and AI-assisted prototyping. What works well is the convenience. Users can start from prompts, templates, GitHub imports, or existing projects, then build and preview web apps directly in the browser. For Firebase-based prototypes, AI app experiments, and quick MVP testing, it can be useful. The main weakness is product status. Firebase Studio is being discontinued, with new workspace creation ending in June 2026 and full shutdown planned for March 2027. That makes it risky for new long-term projects, even if the underlying Firebase services remain active. Overall, Firebase Studio is still useful for existing users who need to finish or migrate projects, but it is not a strong recommendation for new users today. For new AI app development, Google AI Studio or Google Antigravity may be safer paths.
